This is a companion piece with yesterday’s blog entry, “The Day I Became A Benedictine Oblate.”

My room at St. Joseph (again, note the most important piece of equipment in the room, a fan on the desk, and the glowing sneakers in the center of the room represent the run which I didn’t make thanks to the heat).

The monastery is not completely shut off from the world as evidenced by this piece of modern art that is on one of the walls of the common room at St. Joseph.

On Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, in the chapter room in the main building of the monastery, Claire Smock (at piano in foreground) and Jamie Smith (at piano in background) gave a concert of five pieces, including “Someone To Watch Over Me.” Smock and Smith were joined by page-turners Cheyenne Baker, front, and Laura Smock, Claire’s daughter, back. The concert was part of the Dedication Day celebration, in honor of the monastery’s dedication on Aug. 16, 1953.

  2. Thank you for sharing these photos and the video – Life is waiting for you. Those words are helpful to me as sometimes I allow circumstance to make me feel and become stuck – not realizing that life is trying to snap me out of it with those who love me.
