Busy week, so without further adieu:
ME
@ an unfinished person (in an unfinished universe)
- Meandering Monday: I posted about Failing at the No-Cry Challenge with only happy tears (cross post at unfinished ramblings) after Sue from Happy Meals & Happy Hours issued a No-Cry Challenge to a few YouTube videos that she thought we wouldn’t be able to get through without crying. It made me think of my own. Hint: Toy Story 2.
- Tuesday’s Tunes: I remember the great (?) Groups (and a song) featuring continents. Can you think of others?
- Wednesday: I didn’t do my usual Wordless Wednesday. Instead, I filled it with words from an interview with another blogger in a post called Meet astrogirl426 from Notes from the Bunker. It is part of The Great Interview Experiment, started by Neil Kramer from Citizen of the Month at the start of this year . If you haven’t heard of this, I encourage you to check it out even though I’m still waiting for my interview– after a couple of failed attempts.
- Thursday: I participated in this week’s Booking Through Thursday about the best book I didn’t like this year in a cross post on Just A (Reading) Fool.
@ Just A (Reading) Fool
- Saturday: I started a Personal Banned Books Week Challenge to read a book a day in honor of Banned Books Week, sponsored by the American Library Association among others, which was from last Saturday to this Saturday.
- Sunday: I participated in Sunday Salon not just once, but twice. In the first post I not only shared what I would be reading for the day, but also highlighted others doing things in honor of Banned Books Week. In the second post, I talked a bit about reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and in a separate post, I reviewed Slaughterhouse-Five.
- Monday: I continued my new feature Monday’s Memory about a book from my youth, with a review of The Outsiders, which also qualified for my Banned Book Week Challenge.
- Tuesday: I missed out on my usual Tuesday meme things and instead did something that was long overdue in recognizing awards I’ve received and updating tabs and sidebars on this blog.
- Wednesday: I reviewed The Giver.
- Thursday: See above @ an unfinished person (in this unfinished universe).
- Friday: I reviewed The Chocolate War and shared my Friday Finds, which I found at the bookstore where I work, one serious and one not so serious, using a post which also later can be found on unfinished rambling(s).
@ Journeying with the Saints
Only one post here, so I’m not going to bother with a bullet: Never let evil talk pass your lips, where I reflected on gossip, especially in our own parish unfortunately.
@ unfinished rambling(s)
In addition to failing the No-Cry Challenge mentioned earlier, I also rambled about:
- Shiny, happy rural people clinging to religion and guns: about my visit as a reporter to a ribbon-cutting of our county’s McCain/Palin headquarters.
- In God’s Crosshairs: Ask yourself one question, “Do I feel lucky,” Well do ya punk?: about a devotional for hunters actually named In God’s Crosshairs, I kid you not.
YOU
With more than 160 starred posts in my Google Reader, I’m still trying to catch up with you, but so far this is what I’ve culled and still culling (in alphabetical order by blog title, for the most part):
- Becky @ Becky’s Book Review highlights Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren, one of my favorite children’s books. Thanks, Becky, for taking me down memory lane.
- Blake @ Bitchin’ Film Reviews awards ME (so still sort of me) in a giveaway a copy of Paul T. Anderon’s movie There Will Be Blood as part of his Lit Flicks Challenge. If you’re looking for some, well, bitchin’ film reviews, this is the place to go.
- Mrs. S @ Blue Archipelago gets to reviewing Great Expectations by Charles Dickens before I do. I’m sooo behind in my reviews.
- Raych @ books i done read tells us what she really thinks (as usual
of Mathias B. Freese’s short story collections Down to A Sunless Sea by Mathias B. Freese. - My sister @ Boondock Ramblings rubs it in that she has the teddy bear from my childhood, the one I earlier mentioned crying over. Thanks, sis.
- Don @ Don’stuff shares Ten Things You Should Know About Chocolate, Particularly if You are the Mother of a Teenager and Diane K. Merchant and Chinese Restaurant Homicides that were first identified as “stolen groceries” in a headline.
- bethany @ B & b ex libris thinks we should rid the world of useless typing with kill word verication. I don’t use word verification, so sounds good to me.
- Maggie @ Maggie Reads reviews Richard Wright’s Black Boy, a book on which it looks like since this post is taking me up until when I go to the bookstore to work this afternoon (and then a men’s chorus concert afterward), I will be finishing tomorrow.
- Rob @ Mattress Police announces that the Humor-Blogs.com upgrade is finally done! Thanks, Rob. If you’re looking for “the funniest posts from the funniest blogs,” Humor-Blogs.com is the place to look for them.
- Natasha @ Maw Books Blog reviews Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret by Judy Blume and if you think my wrap up posts are insane, check out her review from September (not that they aren’t a lot of good reads there, but still insane).
- Meg @ Prefers Her Fantasy Life celebrates her 100th post in the only way a hippie dippie film-loving liberal from Toledo can do (which, uh, I guess, is good
. - Rickey @ Riding with Rickeye imagines what Henry Paulson had to say to Wall Street earlier in the week, and, uh, let’s just say it wasn’t expletively deleted, but it was funny (at least to me and to the thousands of readers of Rickey’s blog).
- Stefanie @ So Many Books is appalled at Penguin’s announcement that Eion Colfer is writing the sixth part of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and I can’t say I blame her. WTF?
- Doug @ Taunt Vortex gives the first lesson in speech therapy for politicians, much needed after Thursday night’s Vice Presidential debate.
- Kathy @ The Junk Drawer tells us she think she needs an intervention as she begins to share what her typical blogging day is, and I thought I needed an intervention! (But seriously, the way Kathy responds to every single comment, no matter how silly or inane, is beyond applaudable. She should be a role model for all of us in that department.)
- VE @ VE’s Fantastical Nonsense takes a look at some of our candies and helps me understand why I never liked Skittles.
- Jeff @ View from the Cloud shows you pictures of his permed hair in Perms Through The Ages: A hair raising experience, a post that is worth the pay off of seeing Jeff mullet and all (oh, my). A special thanks to Jeff’s brother, Rick, for getting the pictures.
Now a couple out of order because I’ve newly discovered them:
- PlainOleMike, whom I discovered over at Humor-Blogs.com
- and The Daily Blonde, who I disovered through the Twitterverse (oh, I hate that word, but keep using it) after seeing her Tweets on the aforementioned Vice Presidential debate.
And last but certainly not least Florinda @ The 3 R’s: Reading, ‘Riting and Randomness offers her own Saturday Review 10-4 (good buddy) and continues to give me the shoutouts there (thanks, Florinda) as well as…oops, just missed this one, but definitely should be added:
- Book Bloggers Appreciation Week Directory, for which I think I will be adding a link on my sidebar, instead of trying to add all of them to my del.icio.us links.
That should be enough for now. See you all tomorrow. I’m off to the bookstore to work here shortly and then to that men’s chorus concert this evening.

Busy week. Thanks for the mention.
