Stanza 37: Rock of Ages, cleft for me

Stanza 37 and Commentary on It in The Spiritual Canticle by St. John of the Cross
My commentary on Note 4, Paragraph 2

Today, as I ran up Mount Tom, a local hill, I meditated on this, at least part of the time. The other part of the time, I thought of the pain, the exhaustion. But then for some reason, inexplicably (or not since I had just been reading this), I began to sing the first two lines of Rock of Ages (no, not the Def Leppard song, the hymn).

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee

When faced with trials and tribulations, do you hide yourself in the rock that is higher than you? Or do you hide within yourself?

Lord, let me hide myself in Thee. Amen.
