Thoughts:
After World War Z, I needed to read this: a quick, extremely funny read. I’ve read other Dave Barry books, all non-fiction, but never any fiction by him. This was his first foray into fiction and it was well worth the wait. It starts out with a character named Puggy, who lives in a tree of a well-to-do family in a ritzy neighborhood named Coconut Grove in Miami, and ends up with a twisted and hilarious plot that involves a parody and spoof of everything from newsrooms to advertising to Mafia hitmen to Russian gangsters to suburban life in general. While not giving away the ending, you may not believe where this ends up: with the FBI becoming involved in an international conspiracy. But that’s what part of what makes this book so good: the unexpected twists and turns, as well as Barry’s (did I say this word before?) hilarious descriptions of characters and circumstances. A must-read, especially for Dave Barry fans, but also for anyone looking for a very funny book.
