Dusting off my Christian rock collection

This was previously posted in another blog that I am in the process of phasing out, so I moved it here for this week’s Tuesday’s Tunes.

When Larry Norman passed away last month, it made me pull out my old Christian rock tape and CD collection. I even went to the thrift store and purchased a cheap stereo with a cassette player so I could listen to the two cases of tapes I have. One of the tapes, which has become worn for wear, I even found on eBay: a group by the name of In 3D and the album “No Glasses Needed.”

I won’t subject y’all to any lists of greatest Christian rock or Christian contemporary music albums of all times or anything like that (at least this time), because I really don’t think there’s been that many, especially recently (some not even fair to middling). However, I will subject y’all to a list of CDs of a few oldies-but- goodies that I would like to get within the next year.

My top 11 list, in no particular order, is:

  • “Romeo Unchained” by Tonio K
  • “Only Visiting This Planet” by Larry Norman (of course, how could I not have a Larry Norman CD on this list and considering I only have one of his albums?)
  • “Sheep In Wolves Clothing” by Mylon Lefevre and Brokenheart
  • “Sticks and Stones” by the 77s (the Seventy Sevens, as they are sometimes listed)
  • “Run from the Darkness” by Daniel Band
  • “The Ministry Years Vol. 1 and 2″ by Keith Green
  • “Darn Floor Big Bite” by DA (also known as Daniel Amos), which is coming out later this year on Arena Rock Recordings in a special reissue…I’ll let you do the research.
  • “Awaiting Your Reply” by Resurrection Band
  • “Rainbow’s End” by Resurrection Band
  • “Colours” by Resurrection Band

and an album I just learned is available on iTunes, with a lot of other great old Christian rock music: “Fire and Ice” by Steve Camp. Among others I’ve found on iTunes are Jerusalem and Whiteheart to name just a couple of oldies-but-goodies.
