An hour is all I ask…

Brothers and sisters: I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us. For creation awaits with eager expectation the revelation of the children of God; for creation was made subject to futility, not of its own accord but because of the one who subjected it, in hope that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now; and not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. For in hope we were saved. Now hope that sees for itself is not hope. For who hopes for what one sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with endurance.

Romans 8:18-25

Today’s Scripture meditation: Whew! A lot there, isn’t there? Well, I’m going to steal from our priest at our church and his reflection on this Scripture that he gave today. From Fr. Joseph Manarchuck: paraphrased in my notes in my journal: What was Paul’s secret? First, suffering is nothing because of the future. That hope for the future gives us strength for every task, gives us endurance. The hope for a better future can make us persevere and endure. So likewise in my own life, I know that this suffering I undergo in my body is nothing compared to the glory of finishing the race later. Or even the spiritual suffering that I undergo daily struggling to do the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola is nothing compared to the glory that will be revealed later through doing the exercises. Amen.

Today’s run: Today I went to the fitness center at the high school and ran on the treadmill for 30 minutes and then the elliptical machine for another 30 minutes.

Yesterday, I recommitted myself to my goals on SparkPeople, namely running for an hour each day at least three days a week and doing strength training on at least two days. I’ve also recommitted to keeping track of my food and exercise each day. Today, I’ll be honest, I meant to get started on the strength training portion of my goals, but since I didn’t get my run in yesterday, I opted for the run first.

I didn’t go in planning to do both the treadmill and the elliptical machine. My main goal going in today was to go for 30 minutes on the treadmill, but after doing that, I decided why not go on the elliptical machine. Last week I only did half an hour on the treadmill and felt like I should have done more than that. So this week I did.

No grand revelations today. Just plain and simple, getting back to business. Here goes…

Today’s rave music: “Who We Are” by Pearl Jam (couldn’t find a video of it, sorry)

  1. Easy back into regular exercise is the best way to do it. You were going full-tilt boogie there for a while and got a tad burnt out. Moderation is key in all things. Now, if only I could take my own advice!
